The Chinese University Plagiarism IDentification Engine (CUPIDE™)
The CUPIDE System is a new generation plagiarism detection software designed for promoting and upholding academic honesty in academic institutions. The system supports English, traditional and simplified Chinese, and provides a user-friendly web interface for class assignment management and submissions. It can handle documents in different formats including MS Word, Acrobat PDF, HTML and plain text. Submitted documents are compared among one another, and with other documents in the central database and the Internet. Output from the system is an originality report highlighting suspected plagiarized contents, and giving detailed analytic and statistical data.
Drag-and-Drop Pasting
In this project, we present a user-friendly system for seamless image composition, which we call drag-and-drop pasting. To make Poisson image editing more practical and easy to use, we propose a new objective function to compute an optimized boundary condition. A shortest closed-path algorithm is designed to search for the location of the boundary. Moreover, to faithfully preserve the object's fractional boundary, we construct a blended guidance field to incorporate the object's alpha matte.
Manga Colorization

© Yukito Kishiro / Shueisha
The widely popular Japanese manga arts is usually presented in B/W. Its intensive use of hatching and screening is a distinctive characteristic, but also imposes many difficulties in its digital colorization. Unlike the previous colorization methods that rely on intensity-continuity. This paper presents a colorization technique that relies on the pattern-continuity as well as the intensity-continuity. Hence it can naturally colorize the pattern-intensive manga.
Optimal FPGA Architecture Design
SoC IP Core designs for optimal group communication networks, new FPGA siwtching boxes, architectures (Our home-brew (manual design) FPGA chip design example), SoC On-Chip-Networks and related CAD tools.
Proxy Assisted Distributed Multimedia Services
Cooperative networks, in particular, P2P or overlay networks, have caught much attention in recent years. However, most cooperative systems assume that peers are "voluntary" to contribute. We propose an innovative approach to provide incentive and to encourage mutual caching so as to enhance performance.
Query Processing on Historical Uncertain Spatiotemporal Data
In this project, we aim at eliminating the linearity assumption of object motions by developing techniques that support effective retrieval of objects with diverse motion patterns that are unknown in advance. Our first objective is to study theoretical tools for discovering the motion functions of nonlinearly moving objects from their (recent) past locations. The second goal is to design efficient access methods and algorithms that minimize query costs.
Real-time Rendering of Complex Virtual Environments
Our objective is to develop new methods to render complex virtual scenes at interactive rates by investigating the visibility culling, level-of-detail, and image-based rendering techniques. We aim to develop efficient partition schemes, determine the criteria of replacing the primitives with textures, and reconstruct 3D hierarchical model from the textures.
